Can you wash faux suede?

You can wash faux suede, but you have to do it in a proper way.

Faux suede is a man-made material that imitates the look and feel of real suede. When it comes to cleaning it, you can't just toss it into the washing machine like you would with some regular fabrics. For light dirt or small stains, you can start by using a soft, dry brush to gently brush away the surface dirt. This works well if there's just a bit of dust or something like a small mark from a pen that hasn't set in deeply.

If it's a bit dirtier and you need to use a liquid cleaner, you should make a mixture of a mild detergent and warm water. Then take a soft cloth, dip it into the mixture, wring it out well so that it's just damp and not dripping wet, and gently wipe the dirty areas of the faux suede. You have to be careful not to scrub too hard as that can damage the texture of the faux suede. For example, if you have a faux suede jacket with a food stain on it, you can use this method to try to clean it off.

When it comes to larger items like a faux suede couch, you can use a similar approach but on a larger scale. You might need to use a sponge instead of a cloth to apply the cleaner more evenly. After cleaning with the damp cloth or sponge, you should use another clean, damp cloth to rinse off the cleaner by gently wiping the area again.

Once you've cleaned the faux suede, it's important to let it dry completely. You should let it air dry in a well-ventilated area. Don't expose it to direct sunlight or use a heat source to speed up the drying process as that can cause the faux suede to shrink or its texture to change. With the right steps and care, you can wash faux suede and keep it looking nice.
